The German Jordanian University (GJU) has launched a series of specialized workshops aimed at modernizing and developing the higher education sector in Syria, as part of the Syrian Innovation in Academia (SyrIA) project. The five-day series brings together a Syrian academic and administrative delegation comprising university vice presidents, deans, department heads, and representatives of the Ministry of Higher Education.
The workshops aim to share expertise and modern practices in university administration, institutional development, and digital transformation, contributing to the development of Syrian higher education institutions and strengthening their capacity to respond to the challenges and changes facing the sector.
The workshop topics were designed in response to the needs and priorities identified by Syrian universities, based on the findings of the fact-finding mission conducted by the SyrIA project in Syria last May. The training content was tailored to the needs of Syrian higher education institutions, providing participants with opportunities to benefit from relevant expertise and practices that can be applied within their institutions.
The workshops cover a range of specialized topics, including modern university administration and executive leadership, institutional planning and development, performance indicators, quality assurance and accreditation, governance and transparency, administrative process reengineering, financial modeling, digital transformation, electronic document and records management, and the use of artificial intelligence in university administration.
The workshops are delivered by academics and experts from GJU and the University of Jordan, bringing together academic and practical expertise in university administration, strategic planning, quality assurance and accreditation, information systems and technology, financial management, and digital transformation.
The workshops place a strong emphasis on practical application alongside theoretical knowledge through hands-on exercises, case studies, and simulations, enabling participants to apply the knowledge gained, identify areas for improvement within their institutions, develop actionable plans, and transfer relevant practices and expertise to their universities.
The organization of these workshops reflects GJU’s role in supporting academic and institutional cooperation, capacity building, and the exchange of knowledge and expertise across the region. Through the SyrIA project, GJU contributes to advancing academic and administrative practices, supporting the modernization of Syrian higher education institutions, and strengthening their readiness for digital transformation and the evolving demands of the sector.
