The International Affairs Department (IAD) at the German Jordanian University (GJU) organized the Annual Welcome Meeting for Incoming Students for students arriving from partner universities under the student exchange program, DAAD scholarship recipients, and students enrolled in the Arabic Fusha Program for the first semester of the 2026/2027 academic year. The meeting was attended by Vice President for International Affairs Prof. Dr. Ralf Roßkopf, along with a number of GJU faculty and administrative staff members.
The meeting was coordinated by Head of the Scholarships and Mobilities Section and Incoming Coordinator at IAD, Mr. Saleem Abuharb, who introduced the students to the university and its services and provided them with information and guidance on academic and student life during their stay in Jordan.
Vice President for International Affairs Prof. Dr. Ralf Roßkopf highlighted the importance of academic exchange in fostering communication among students from different cultures. He encouraged the students to make the most of their experience in Jordan, engage in university life, learn about Jordanian culture and landmarks, follow university guidelines, and reach out to the university whenever they need support.
For her part, Deputy Director of IAD Ms. Eman Asenwar welcomed the students, stressing the university’s commitment to providing them with a well-rounded academic and cultural experience and encouraging them to engage with the university and local communities and make the most of their stay in Jordan.
Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Omar Albatayneh also welcomed the incoming students, emphasizing the importance of providing them with a supportive university environment and encouraging them to contact the Deanship and IAD whenever they need assistance.
Lubna Muwaad, an instructor at the Arabic Language and Culture Center (ALCC), also provided an overview of the Arabic language and culture programs offered by the Center to incoming students.
The meeting concluded with a presentation by Saleem Abuharb, covering a number of guidelines related to academic and student life and adjusting to life in Jordan. The International Student Club (ISC) also welcomed the new students and introduced them to the activities and opportunities available to them during the semester.
As part of the orientation program, the students took part in a trip to Madaba and Mount Nebo, which included visits to a number of historical and religious landmarks, as well as participation in a mosaic art workshop. The activities also included a visit to Downtown Amman and the Roman Theatre, providing the students with an opportunity to learn more about Jordanian culture and landmarks.
These activities are part of GJU’s efforts to support student exchange programs, provide incoming students with an academic and cultural experience, and promote communication and interaction among students from different cultures.
