On Monday, February 25, 2019, the German Jordanian University (GJU) and “Rockware” Company for software and information solutions have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to build a strategic partnership between the two parties and establish a company office within the university.

The memorandum, which was signed by the GJU President Prof. Manar Fayyad, and the CEO of Rockware, Mr. Oliver Gebert, aims at opening a company branch at GJU premises and to provide employment and training opportunities for GJU students

According to the MoU, the company in Germany and its office in Jordan, which will be established at the  School Electrical Engineering and Information Technology  (SEEIT) will provide students with internship opportunities to adapt theoretical education with applied education and obtain real experiences that will make them qualified for jobs after graduation. Furthermore it will offer up to 10 working places in the future for GJU graduates.

Fayyad expressed her happiness with this cooperation, which is the first of its kind at the university. Stressing that the MOU will provide an opportunity for students to strengthen the academic aspects and practical training. She added that the university will provide all possible facilities to enhance the professional and scientific relations.

Prof. Sahel Alouneh, Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, stated the importance of such cooperation in order to strengthen GJU’s industrial dimension and applied sciences approach, hoping that such cooperation will be a role model also for other companies to operate directly at the Universities’ premises in close connection with the Schools.  

Gebert stressed the company's keenness on cooperation and coordination between the two sides in the field of practical training for students and providing the office space at GJU premises. He appreciated the efforts made by GJU in providing the necessary information, data and the appropriate environment for exchange and transfer experiences to students.

Eng. Sief Muffarrej, a Senior Consultant at Rockware and one of the graduates of GJU, expressed his pride to his university and to the opportunity that offered him to train and work for Rockware Company after graduating. Hoping that this joint cooperation will result in more job opportunities for his colleagues in the future.

The MOU was signed in the presence of Vice Presidents Prof. Atef Kharabsheh and Prof. Dorit Schumann, the Director of the Office for Industrial Links Britta Kähler, as well as the Deans of the Schools at GJU.
