Labour demand The demand for labour worldwide, and especially in Arab and European countries, is already high and is expected to explode in the coming years. An estimated 400,000 jobs are expected to be created in the hydrogen industry in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) alone (70,000 in Oman). Saudi Arabia has announced its intention to become the biggest hydrogen producer globally, the UAE have set similar goals and Oman is close behind. The various national strategies and projects (e.g., NEOM, HYDROM) in the region are mirrored by complementary strategies of importing countries around the globe. Expected salary Salaries can vary depending on the sector, level of studies and the experience of the hydrogen engineer. According to the Association of German Engineers (VDI), starting salaries in engineering are on average between 51,000 and 61,000 euros per year. In large companies and especially in the chemical industry, salaries can be significantly higher: Young professionals at the start of their careers may earn 60,000 euros per year, and with experience, the salary can reach 87,000 euros per year in the chemical industry.
