Department & PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

As Part of the school of Architecture and built environment the department of Design and Visual Communication was established in 2008.

Applying SABE vision the department always thrive to provide high-quality integrated practice-based learning in a responsive and dynamic educational environment.

In addition to develop the educational program towards market-responsive teaching environment, emphasizing the German and International dimension. The department is interested in exchanging knowledge and experience with the international community through education and travel.

The Degree

The bachelor's of design and visual communication is an integrated design program incorporating graphic design, cinematography and TV production, multi-media and animation, and product design- the first and the only program in Jordan that deals with design and visual communication from an integrated perspective. It is also the first Program at the bachelors' level that concerns Cinema and TV Production. 

It’s a good major for anyone who naturally has an eye for visual composition and an instinct for communicating ideas with designs.  

There are many jobs and job titles in the Design and Visual Communication field, depending on the student’s interest, skill set, and chosen specialty in the four streams that we offer.  

Graduates of the Bachelor of Design and Visual Communication can find employment in a variety of roles in many different types of organizations.  

Some of these jobs will depend upon the amount and level of study was undertaken, level of experience and the combination of other majors and electives studied.

• Graphics Design Stream | Book Designer, Magazine Designer, Advertising Artist or Copywriter Artist, Illustrator, Layout Artist, Print Specialist, Marketing Consultant.

The Diploma of Graphic Design will enable students to combine technical, creative and conceptual skills to create designs that meet client requirements and solve a range of visual communication challenges.

• Multimedia and Animation Stream | 2D Animator, 3D Animator, 3D Modeler, Multimedia Specialist, Interactive Media Designer/ Multimedia Designer/ Developer, Web Designer/Developer, Media Production Editor, Character Designer. 

The program focuses on the development of individual creative expression using experimental & innovative animation & multimedia techniques.

• Cinematography and TV Production Stream | Producer, Director, Cinematographer, Script Writer, Photographer, Editor, Composer. 

Receive in-depth hands-on training across several key disciplines of filmmaking behind the camera: screen-writing and directing / cinematography, sound and editing /production.

To learn the art of storytelling from script to screen through conceptual understanding and skill development to empower student with the ability to express by applying the grammar, tools and techniques of film craft.

• Product Design Stream | Product Designer Fashion designer, Packaging Designer, Model Maker, Exhibition Designer, Furniture Designer. 

Students will gain an understanding of form and function, color, market research and consumer demand, new technology, material and cultural studies.

Student will learn to execute projects in a professional manner from presentation sketches, research reports, visuals; computer generated 3D model and actual prototypes.

Many of the project work directly with industry to give student practical exposure to ‘live’ project and they require skills and knowledge to enter into the global design network.

The Design and Visual Communication program demands individual creativity, teamwork skills and adaptability while preparing students to enter the job market with practical experience and a full, professionally reviewed portfolio.

Students will be exposed to industry best practices, and real-world creative agency scenarios

through industry visits, guest speakers and real-life projects.
