Funding Agency: The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ)
Project Description:
Established in 2021 through a German-Jordanian partnership, the German Energy Academy (GEA) Jordan addresses the growing demand for skilled professionals in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and electric vehicle charging. Operating from facilities at German Jordanian University (GJU) and Al Hussein Technical University (HTU), GEA has trained over 500 participants, including 30% women, promoting gender inclusion in a traditionally male-dominated sector.
This project aims to institutionalize and strengthen GEA’s role as a sustainable, credible training provider by updating curricula, enhancing trainer skills, and securing legal and financial sustainability. The academy supports Jordan’s goal of 50% renewable energy by 2030 by preparing a workforce ready to meet the challenges of the country’s clean energy transition.
Project Goals
- Curriculum Development: Update existing courses and design new gender-sensitive training programs aligned with market and industry needs.
- Trainer Capacity Building: Provide technical and pedagogical training to GEA trainers to ensure high-quality delivery.
- Legal Recognition & Governance: Establish GEA’s legal status, management frameworks, and governance structures compliant with Jordanian law.
- Financial Sustainability: Develop and implement a comprehensive business plan to secure long-term financial viability.
- Gender Inclusion: Foster gender-responsive training environments and increase female participation in the energy sector.
- Regional Outreach: Expand visibility and accessibility to attract trainees from Jordan and neighboring countries, positioning GEA as a regional upskilling center.
By achieving these goals, GEA will solidify its position as a leading institution driving Jordan’s energy modernization, economic growth, and inclusive workforce development.
This project is part of GIZ's Jordanian-German Energy Partnerships and is financed by the GIZ as commissioned by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany.
