The Energy Smart Mediterranean Schools Network (ESMES) project, run by the German Jordanian University through the School of Natural Resources Engineering and Management (SNREM) at the German Jordanian University (GJU), honored the winning schools in the energy competition.

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Education for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Dr. Najwa Qubailat, and the President of GJU, Prof. Ala’aldeen Al-Halhouli, attended the ceremony.

The competition, which was organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, focused on the optimization of energy consumption in public schools through innovative, monitoring-based renewable energy and energy efficiency (REEE) pilot actions.

In his speech, Dr. Al-Halhouli congratulated the winners, pointing to the importance of the role of universities in promoting community service and the focus of the university on this through its qualified and equipped graduates locally and internationally, in addition to attracting projects that have a direct impact on schools and society.

Dr. Al-Halhouli appreciated the support and efforts of the Ministry in facilitating the tasks of the team and communicating with all parties to achieve the project's goals.

For her part, Dr. Qubailat explained the importance of renewable energy and its efficiency, which falls within the royal and international interests and the diversity of education within schools by integrating curricular content with extra-curricular activities and providing projects that open the way for school students to participate and be creative.

In their turn, the project coordinators, Dr. Zakaria Dalala and Dr. Osama Saadeh stated that the competition included six schools throughout the Kingdom. They added that five national axes and strategies were established to support a mixture of cost-effective energy efficiency in school buildings. Four projects were implemented in Jordan and Certified with Energy Performance Certifications.

It is noteworthy that the winning schools are Al-Tura High School for Boys, Al-Zarnoji High School for Boys, Mobus Mixed High School, King Abdullah II for Excellence / Madaba, Al-Manshia High School for Girls, and the Tenth Mixed High School.
