The German Jordanian University (GJU) hosted the meeting of the cooperation program between the water sector and universities. The meeting aimed to bridge the knowledge gap between both sectors by institutionalizing the scientific and research relationship between the water sector and the academic sector, based on the importance of this relationship in strengthening and adopting innovative and creative ideas in managing the scarcity of water resources in Jordan.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Water and Irrigation and the Water Sector Governance Project funded by the USAID. Involved parties discussed the Ministry’s perception, the expected results of cooperation between the academic and water sectors, the challenges and opportunities for conducting potential scientific research at the university during the first year of the program, and a brief description of the specific research topics according to the perception of the water sector, which can represent a potential opportunity for researchers and students.

GJU's team of the School of Natural Resources Engineering and Management (SNREM) presented the water and energy programs and the local experiences of the faculty members, besides how to integrate the program into academia; they also presented the technical and administrative aspects of training and activities.

It is worth mentioning that the meeting was attended by the Vice President for International Affairs at GJU, Prof. Reiner Finkeldey, the Dean of SNREM, Dr. Qasem Abdelal, experts from the Ministry, the Water Authority, the Jordan Valley Authority, members of water distribution companies, representatives of the private sector, and several deans of scientific research from Jordanian universities.
