The Minister of Water and Irrigation, Eng. Muhammad Al-Najjar, and the President of the German Jordanian University, Prof. Ala'aldeen Al-halhouli, in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Jordan Valley Authority, Eng. Manar Mahasneh, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, Dr. Jihad Al-Mahamid, and the Dean of the School of Natural Resources Engineering and Management (SNREM), Dr. Qasem Abdelal, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation between the two parties.

Eng. Al-Najjar indicated that the MoU comes in implementation of the royal directives in the development, modernization, and strengthening of cooperation between government institutions, scientific research institutions, and universities in water research, wise and sustainable management to face the challenges encountering the water sector, in particular, the lack of this valuable resource.He affirmed that the government continues to raise the efficiency of water use and develop water management to maximize the benefits of water use in the country.

He pointed out that the MoU comes from the government's follow-up to meet the royal expectations by openness to modern international scientific experiences, where experiences will be exchanged, and qualified cadres from both parties will be used to provide studies and implement projects that fall within the water sector priorities that will positively reflect on the workers and provide them with the required expertise, in addition to taking the German Jordanian University as a research and development partner for the Ministry.

For his part, Dr. Al-Halhouli stressed that using the scientific approach to the management of water resources and the long-term plans to protect these resources from depletion and reduce incurred costs in crisis management is the best method for managing and maximizing the use of available water resources, indicating that the university will provide lectures and specialized courses for the employees of the ministry.

It is noteworthy that the MoU will enable the staff of the two parties to exchange experiences to benefit from sustainable and modern technology and the issue of water losses, management of wells and aquifers, holding conferences, workshops, and seminars, exchanging scientific references, presenting and evaluating achievements and finding possible solutions of potential difficulties.
