The department of Architecture and Interior Architecture hosted the symposium entitled “Role of Universities in the Arab Region: Towards Sustainable Built Environment”.  

The symposium has three main pillars: scientific research, teaching pedagogy and future plans to develop them in cooperation with universities and industry. 

It highlighted the successful research projects funded by DAAD the “German Academic Exchange Service” during the recent years. The outcomes in terms of focusing on the Sustainable Built Environment at the research level among Jordanian, Arab and German universities were presented. The participated universities are German Jordanian University, TU Berlin, Hannover FH, Würzburg FH, HfWU Hochschule für Wirtschaft und Umwelt Nürtingen-Geislingen, Yarmouk University and Carthage University.

The projects shows how the partnership with different actors was a key to achieve the projects objectives, including municipalities from different cities, local NGOs and international cooperation, eg. UN HABITAT and GIZ. 

Furthermore, it is part of the program “Advancing Change in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (ACLTHE)" which has been designed to build capacity, and enhance networking within the region and with the UK in cooperation with British council. 

The symposium has both presentations and workshops and was organized by Dr. Farah AlAtrash/ GJU and Dr. Hassan Elmouelhi (TU Berlin).  

Prof. Dr. Reiner Finkeldey, Vice President for International Affairs at gju, Mr. Benjamin Schmäling, Director of the “German Academic Exchange Service” DAAD Regional Office Amman, the dean of school of Architecture and Built Environment (SABE), colleagues from Jordanian universities, industrial partners and bachelor and Master students attended the event. "
