The Sheraton Hotel in Cairo hosted a significant conference between 6-7 December 2023, attracting more than 120 participants from the MENA region and Germany. The “AlMena 5 Conference”, which was organized by the DAAD Egypt, gathered professionals and researchers from Algeria, Jordan, Egypt, and Germany to share insights across various fields of German studies.

With over 21 presenters addressing current research topics and relevant aspects of German studies, the conference witnessed dynamic panel discussions on a diverse range of topics related to the study of the German language within the MENA region specifically.

Worthy of mention was the participation of Ms. Dana Abu Thawabeh and Ms. Zain Abu-Taleb, two lecturers from the German Language Center (GLC) at the GJU.

The two lecturers presented a study conducted at the GLC entitled “The Potential of Corpora in the Context of German as a Foreign Language (DaF).” Their research findings were thoroughly presented and discussed during the first day of the conference.

Through AlMena 5, the DAAD Egypt office provided a unique opportunity for intercultural exchange, a deeper understanding of various challenges within the German Studies context in the region, and even a chance to explore growth opportunities.
