Project Title:
Water Security - Data to Decision (D2D) (Phase 1)
Funding Agency: The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF)
Project Description:
This project aims to form a "Water Security Knowledge and Innovation Platform" involving Jordanian and German actors from science, policy, business, and civil society. The purpose of this platform is to design and implement a new model of innovation-based research for the water and related sectors in Jordan. A pilot project in Northern Jordan - an area where (transboundary) water resources are under particular pressure due to long-term overuse and recent pressure from migration - will be designed to show how research can spur innovation and how a future more systematic science-policy-society interface could create knowledge that society demands. While the preparatory phase will be used to set up the platform and start the pilot project the main phase will produce tangible products like a water security toolbox, foresight report, and a “funding research for innovation” strategy.
Throughout the project, the Jordanian universities will significantly advance their capacities to develop more demand and market-oriented research and education. Links to open-source data and open-access educational material will be established, Incubators will be supported among students and young researchers and the targeted involvement of the international knowledge community on water issues will be advanced for mutual benefits.
This project is funded by The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
