The project focuses on exploring sustainable urban transformation in Amman through the integration of cultural heritage, social practices, and spatial planning. It examines the role of informal public spaces as important places of social interaction and carriers of intangible cultural heritage, aiming to develop more inclusive, resilient, and culturally sensitive urban environments.

Through collaboration between RWTH Aachen University (including the UNESCO Chair for Cultural Heritage and Urbanism), the German Jordanian University, and Wasit University, the project enables interdisciplinary exchange among students and academics in architecture and urban planning. Activities include joint design projects, digital exchanges, field visits, and a symposium focusing on heritage-based urban development.

Using Amman’s King Hussein Street as a case study, the project combines mapping, field analysis, heritage mapping, and visual narratives to investigate the relationship between urban change, cultural identity, and public space. It aims to strengthen academic cooperation, support the development of GJU’s master programs in spatial planning and urban heritage, and promote knowledge exchange between research, education, and practice in the region.
