Study Group Mobility 2021 Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg Mannheim

From 2nd - 9th October, we were able to host the second study group from the Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg (DHBW) Mannheim in Jordan.

Ten Bachelor students from DHBW, studying Business Administration – Forwarding, Transport and Logistics in their third year, were supervised by Prof. Dr. Julia Hansch, who also initiated the project together with Dr. Omar M. Shubailat from SMLS.

The project is about a market entry analysis, so the German students analysed whether it is worthwhile for their German companies to open a branch in Jordan. Therefore, infrastructure, shipment structure and volume as well as existing competitors are taken into account. The journey to Jordan was the starting point for the project in order to get an insight into these aspects in the Middle East and build a network with experts.

On the first day, the German students explored Amman and its touristic sites and visited the Open Day on the main campus. There, they got the chance to learn more about the GJU and the different schools. On the following day, the students came to the main campus again to officially start their project. They had a welcome session with the international office and the SMLS. The German and Jordanian students shared their experiences as dual students in Germany and Jordan and discussed differences and similarities. Moreover, the German students prepared a quick presentation about themselves and the company they are working for as part of their study program. Tips regarding working and applying for jobs and internships in Germany were most welcomed by the Jordanian dual students.

The following days were filled with several company visits in the morning and trips in the afternoon. The group visited DHL and Aramex in Amman as well as the Aqaba Logistics Village in Aqaba. The companies welcomed the group and presented their service and structure and gave the German students a chance to ask questions and share their expertise. The other excursions were to Jerash, the Dead Sea as well as to Wadi Rum and Petra.

We greatly appreciate the commitment of the GJU students, who organised own excursions for the German group in the evenings and thereby offered the German students valuable insights into the Jordanian culture. This ensured an academic and cultural exchange in line with the motto of their new Whats App group “Jormany”. We therefore hope that DHBW and GJU students will serve as ambassadors for Jordan and Germany.

We would like to thank the SMLS and DHBW Mannheim everyone who contributed to the Study Group Mobility. We are looking forward to further cooperation with the DHBW as well as the other Study Groups that we are welcoming  in the next months.
