About The University

The German Jordanian University (GJU) is a public Jordanian university with two campuses. It was founded in 2005 by a Royal Decree, in accordance with a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) of the Federal Republic of Germany. April 25th, 2005, saw the laying of the corner stone under the patronage of H.M. King Abdullah II.

GJU bridges Jordan and Germany and more generally Europe. By taking advantage of the best educational practices in both Jordan and Germany, the University has positioned itself as a leader in its field. It is well connected globally opening opportunities for international exchange and collaboration for students and faculty alike.

GJU’s unique educational profile is centered around its German Year: All Bachelor students engage in a study semester in one of GJU’s over 120 German partner universities and one internship semester in the German industrial and corporate ecosystem. While teaching at GJU is predominantly in English language, all students receive curricular German language training throughout the first three years of their studies. To do so, the University is home of the world’s largest German Language Center.

GJU's focus is on providing undergraduate and graduate programs of the highest quality. It offers ca. 40 degree programs to a body of approximately 6,000 students, predominantly drawn from Jordan, but including many international students. The university takes pride in its student-centered environment for learning and believes that quality education is founded upon close associations between faculty and students.

The University is modelled on the German applied science concept, characterized by its focus on putting knowledge into practice, promoting knowledge transfer, project-based training, experiential learning, professional excellence, oriented towards market and industry needs. Strong linkages to the German and Jordanian industry are fostering the practical relevance of teaching. On top, GJU is pioneering dual studies in Jordan, making the corporate world the second learning site for its most ambitious students.

GJU has an objective to prepare highly skilled graduates with relevant knowledge of the industry, to contribute positively to socio-economic development, to excel in a highly competitive and technologically oriented world, and to boost the industrial and economic standing of Jordan and the region. The high employability of GJU graduates proves its success.

GJU provides lifelong learning opportunities for a diverse spectrum of people through its Consultation and Training Center, capitalizing extensively on partnerships with private companies and public agencies in the region.

Reflected in the University's mission, goal, and strategy statements GJU drives research and research-led teaching. It fosters  publishing and disseminating research of the highest international standards. At the same time, GJU strives to turn research findings into marketable products, and start-ups into sustainable enterprises. For this purpose, it maintains an extended industrial network, hosts a unique Deanship of Innovation, Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship (DI-TECH) and offers a dedicated space for interaction between academia and industry in its Technology, Research, and Innovation Park (TRIP).

GJU has grown in both size and stature over the past years. It has positioned itself as a leading institution of higher learning, known for its dedication to service, its innovative approach to academic management and human resource development, and its relentless pursuit of excellence in all fields of applied research and instruction. As a transnational higher education institution, GJU received and receives funding by the BMBF (now: Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space – BMFTR) and the German Foreign Office (AA) through the DAAD. It’s core academic partner is the Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences, which hosts the GJU Project Office managing the DAAD fund to jointly promote GJU’s German Dimension.
