Biography
Mohammed Khaled holds Master’s degree from MIT 1989 in Design for Islamic Societies and B.Sc. Arch. from Jordan University 1981. He is a founding partner of GDAR (Group for Design and Architectural Research) an architectural consulting office established in Amman, Jordan in1991. Also he is an Industrial professor of architecture at School of the Built Environment, the German Jordanian University since January 2011.
Mohammed has more than 30 years of experience in architectural design and teaching. As a Principal of GDAR he has developed design approach that mediate between modernism and cultural commitment to place and context. He has worked on complex projects from educational and health facilities to urban design and heritage conservation and housing schemes in different places as Morocco, West Bank of Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, UAE and locally in Jordan. He has participated in numerous numbers of architectural competitions and won prizes in most occasions. His work on Princess Salma real estate development project has won the Islamic architecture award of Cityscape Dubai 2006. As principal and Design manager at GDAR he has the skills and experience to lead a design team of various specialties with vision of conceptual, engineering and management sight. In addition Mohammed has the experience of dealing with urban and cultural projects locally and overseas and with remote design teams via different tools and medias.
He has wide experience in teaching design studios, history and theory of architecture and other courses at Jordan University, German Jordanian University, American University of Madaba and Petra University. He is a regular visiting critic of graduation projects in most of the local Universities. He has participated, lectured and exhibited his work on several conferences, workshops and events.
