The main objective of people working in the WaSH sector is to ensure that people affected by manmade or natural disasters have decent access to water and sanitation while practicing basic hygiene activities. This degree will teach you the most technical and management aspects used in the field while introducing innovative approaches and techniques.

Our WaSH Master’s program will prepare you to become a manager with responsibilities from day one. All aspects of the project cycle management will be mastered allowing you to assess the real needs of the people, design appropriate projects, and implement and monitor field activities with effectiveness and professionalism while respecting ethical aspects.

You will learn how to respond effectively in an emergency to a crisis. But as well to bridge an emergency response with long-term solutions leading to a cost-effective and sustainable solution. This Master's is not only technical as essential notions in finance, logistics, and human resources management, as well as reporting and communication skills, will be practiced.

The main aim of the WaSH humanitarian master program is to educate and train students to access the position of WaSH program coordination by starting as Project Manager and to acquire enough knowledge/Hard and soft skills to evolve rapidly to a national coordination position. The name of the position differs according to the organization.

We considered here as WaSH project manager, the person managing a WaSH project at the field level (being in charge of the project, managing field staff and operation in the field). A WaSH coordinator generally coordinates WaSH activities at a country/region level. She/ He is often based at a capital level and can be responsible for a number of projects, country strategy, and technical support. She/ He is generally the supervisor of the WaSH project manager.

Those functions may be named differently in various organizations such as Head of Department, WaSH coordinator, WaSH program manager, program director, WaSH expert, WaSH specialist, etc.

The program objectives rely on providing the students with the following solid operational, technical ,and managerial competencies:

  • To understand humanitarian principles and international laws

  • To acquire knowledge and experience on the various steps of project cycle management (PCM) related to WaSH
    interventions

  • To acquire knowledge and experience to take into account humanitarian concepts and cross-cutting issues into
    programming (gender, protection, and inclusion of vulnerable and stigmatized groups taking into account their
    special needs)

  • To acquire skills in leadership, HR management, logistics, security, computer, reports writing, communication and
    networking needed in humanitarian project management and coordination.
