Disasters and Conflict: A Collaborative and Integrated Seminar - A National Initiative to Protect and Valorize the Site of Ayn Ghazal, Jordan.

Under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Dana Firas, president of the International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS-Jordan), a joint Jordanian Egyptian activity involving a field visit to Ayn Ghazal as well as an in person and online seminar was organized under the title “Disaster and conflict through the lens of the Venice Charter”. The field trip was held on April 24, 2024, and the seminar was held on May 12, 2024.
The event was organized by ICOMOS-Jordan in partnership with the Abu Simbel 50 Campaign, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture in Egypt.
Prof. Nizar Abu-Jaber, the director of the Center for the Study of Natural and Cultural Heritage (CSNACH) at GJU, delivered a presentation titled "A National Initiative to Protect and Valorize the Site of Ayn Ghazal, Jordan." During the session, Professor Abu-Jaber discussed how to preserve and revive the Ayn Ghazal heritage site through an institutionalized national effort. The discussion included an introduction to the site's context, importance, and significant features.
Moreover, he highlighted the challenges and dilemmas associated with prehistoric sites. He shared a design proposal for enhancing and marketing the Ayn Ghazal heritage site. Finally, he addressed the complexities of valorizing cultural heritage at Ayn Ghazal.
