1. I have a German passport, do I go through the same procedures as other students before moving to Germany? 

  • Yes, you have to go through the same procedures as Jordanian passport holders except for the visa process. 

 

2. Do I, as a foreign Arab student, have to get my high school certificate certified in my home country?   

  • No, you do not. Just make sure you have an English or German translation of it.  

 

3. I have a German passport, do I go through the same procedures as other students before moving to Germany?   

  • Students with a German passport do not have to open a blocked account, neither do they need a visa. Nevertheless, they have to fulfil all academic prerequisites for the German Year and apply for the host university with the IAD  

 

4. Can I renew or extend my visa once I arrived in Germany?    

  • Please turn to the responsible outgoing coordinator at GJU International Affairs Department for further details.   

 

5. Should I/Can I apply for the visa at the German embassy myself? 

  • No, please do not apply for a visa for the German Year on your own. The International Affairs Department will help you with the application process and arranges the necessary appointments at the embassy. 

 

6. How long does the Visa issuance take? 

  • It usually takes from 6 – 8 weeks to be issued. 

 

7. Does the International Affairs Department has an influence on the Visa issuance? 

  • No, the IAD at GJU have no influence on anything related to the Visa issuance. 

 

8. Can I track my Visa via VFS Global or through the IAD at GJU? 

  • No, you cannot track your Visa at all. You will be informed by us when it is issued. 

 

9. What is the type of my Visa? Can I travel around Europe? 

  • The Visa you get is a National Student Visa type D, which allows you to travel through the European Schengen area. 

 

10. Does Germany have to be my first entry destination? 

  • Yes, Germany has to be your first entry destination, in order to avoid any interference with the European Authorities.  

  

11. Can I apply for the Visa using the Declaration of Commitment (Verpflichtungserklärung كفالة) instead of the Fintiba blocked account? 

  • Yes, you can; the terms and conditions vary from one German state to another. The person offering to sponsor you should ask the Foreign Office in his state to clear the situation. The original document should be sent to you.
