German Year / German Seats,
First (winter) Semester 2026/2027

Application deadline: 16 February 2026 [23:59 Jordan Time]

Date: 04.02.2026

i. Program Description

Erasmus+ is the European Union’s (EU) funding program for education and training between 2021 and 2027. The Erasmus+ program builds on the achievements of 30 years of European programs in the fields of education, training, and youth.

The German Jordanian University has successfully established several partnerships with distinguished universities all over Europe under the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (ICM). It encourages the student to study and work in Europe. It promotes transnational cooperation projects among Universities across European countries.

The Erasmus+ program provides GJU students with the opportunity to spend one semester at one of our partner universities. The program supports students with a monthly scholarship that covers living expenses for up to five months as well as travel allowance. More details about what you can expect from your home University and the receiving University at each step of your mobility, rights and obligations as ERASMUS+ students you will find in the Erasmus Student Charter.

ii. Additional funding for participants with fewer opportunities

Equal opportunities are a central concern in the Erasmus+ program. In order to enable more people with fewer opportunities to participate in the program in the future, the German National Agency for Erasmus+ University Cooperation in the DAAD has increased the scholarship rates for students, expanded the target groups for receiving additional financial support and simplified access conditions. If you have a disability, chronical illness, child or children, are the first student in your family or working to finance your studies, you can apply for extra funding. The decision is made by our German partner Universities. More info here.

iii. Who can apply?

To participate in the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility programme in the first (winter) semester 2026/27, students must be eligible for the German Year. Only students who meet the German Year eligibility requirements may apply within this call. The detailed German Year criteria can be found here.

Accordingly, all eligible German Year students who will start their German Year in the first (winter) semester 2026/27 may apply to participate in Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (please check the list of partner universities below). All partner universities require a minimum English proficiency of B1; some also require German proficiency at B2 level.

IMPORTANT

The Erasmus+ scholarship call for applications is now open for students who will undertake their German Year in the first (winter) semester 2026/27. Please note that for other students there will be a call for applications for European Erasmus seats not related to the German Year is expected to open in March 2026.
Applicants whose status does not comply with Erasmus+ rules and regulations will be considered ineligible, and the committee will proceed with selecting the next eligible candidate on the list.

Before applying for the German seats:

• Students are required to select a suitable host university from the Erasmus+ partner university list that offers mobility programmes recognized by their GJU school. Support during this process may be provided by the exchange coordinator/officer or the dean of the respective GJU school

• Students are required to identify a maximum of two courses taught in English (up to 12 ECTS); all remaining courses must be taught in German. The selected courses must align with the student’s study plan and be eligible for recognition upon return to GJU. Support may again be provided by the exchange coordinator/officer or the dean.

• Erasmus+ requires a minimum workload of 18 ECTS for the mobility semester abroad (some partner universities may require a higher workload). Students are therefore advised to plan a workload of 25–30 ECTS, in case one or two courses are not successfully completed. In addition, the German Year study plan requirements must be fulfilled.

• Students are strongly advised to carefully read the Rules and Regulations!

A step-by-step application guide

Step 1: check your German Year eligibility.

Step 2: Check the List of Partner Universities to determine which ones offer courses relevant to your major. You can select a first and second choice for your host university. Please note that mobilities are allocated according to available seats and offered majors, and this may vary from semester to semester. All partner universities require a minimum English proficiency of B1; some also require German proficiency at B2 level.

Step 3: Prepare your application documents. The online application must include the following documents:

1. Fill the Online-Application form on MyGJU.
2. Updated CV in English
3. Letter of motivation in English (one page)
4. Language Certificate English
5. Learning Agreement → Upload a blank file in this fieldThe Learning Agreement will be completed at a later stage, in coordination with the Exchange Coordinators, once a host university has been assigned to you.

The Letter of Motivation should include:
• Why did you choose the selected partner university?
• What do you hope to gain by studying a semester abroad?
• How do you plan to achieve these goals?
How do you intend to share and disseminate your Erasmus+ experience upon your return to GJU?

Important Notice:

Using artificial intelligence tools to write a motivation letter is strongly discouraged. Such letters are generally rated poorly by our evaluation committee, as they lack a personal touch and do not reflect genuine effort. When reading several motivation letters in a row, it quickly becomes apparent — due to repeated and formulaic phrases — which ones were created with AI and which are truly individual. Students who submit their  own,  thoughtfully  crafted  motivation  letters  are  rewarded  with  higher  evaluations.

Erasmus+ Scoring Criteria

Students are assessed based on four main criteria, each of which carries a different weight. These criteria are grouped into two assessment components: the formal evaluation of the application documents and the student’s performance during the Assessment Center interview.

The application documents account for 60% of the total score and include academic merit (GPA), the CV, and the motivation letter. The interview conducted during the Assessment Center accounts for the remaining 40%.

A scholarship committee reviews the students’ application documents and evaluates their performance during the Assessment Center interview in order to identify suitable candidates at each stage of the selection process. The weighting and point allocation for each criterion are defined and approved by the International Affairs Department and the Presidency.

The table below provides a detailed overview of the scoring criteria and their respective weights.

Erasmus+ Scoring Criteria Points /Weight (from Total Estimation)

Documents:

  • Academic Merit (GPA)
  • CV; application related experience
  • Motivation Letter; (especially the content, grammar and structure)

  • 10
  • 10%
Interview 40

The CV will be evaluated based on both application-related experience and formal criteria.

After the deadline the applications will be reviewed by the International Affairs Department. In case there are more eligible applicants than available seats, suitable candidates will be invited for an interview with a GJU selection committee. If other partner Universities offer us more seats during the call we will offer the new seats in the assessment center. The assessment center will probably be between 22.02. - 26.02.2026. The results will be communicated to the candidates by approx. first week of March 2026. Then, an appeal window will be available for 48 hours.  Only those appeals sent during the designated window to io.queries@gju.edu.jo will be considered.
