About Your Scholarship

Eligibility

The scholarships will be awarded to students enrolled in German III or IV by the German Language Center through a separate test. Please turn to the GLC for further information, or see your emails and the International Office’s website (www.gju.edu.jo/international) for any announcements.

Scope of the Scholarship

The scholarships for the summer course include the following:

  1. Course fees for the summer course,

  2. Cultural activities and other programs accompanying the summer course, which may vary greatly from institution to another,

  3. Accommodation in Germany depending on the facilities offered by your institution,

  4. Travel fees amounting to a lump sum of 400 Euro. Further information on how to receive this allowance will be sent by the International Office.

Prior to Your Departure to Germany

Application Process (Online)

The start of the online application process will be announced via GJUs mailing system, as well as via the International Office’s Website and Facebook page. Please note that there will be a separate online application form for Scholarship holders. Thus, please do not register via the self-payer registration form.

After entering your personal data, please give your preferences concerning the location of the intensive German language summer courses. You will have to give three preferences, ranking from "1. Choice - Most preferred" to "3. Choice - least preferred". Please be aware that there is no guarantee that you can be placed into any choices.

Selection Process

After the deadline has ended, all submitted preferences will be assessed. If possible, you will be placed in the location you have given as your first preference straightaway. In case there is more demand (i.e. more first choices) for a location for at a given date than we can provide, applicants will be picked randomly until all placements have been awarded. Those who could not be granted their first choice will be placed in their secondly or thirdly preferred location, if possible.

In case that none of your choices could be awarded to you, we will contact you to discuss further options. Please note that there is thus no guarantee for a placement at any of your chosen locations.

Summer Session at GJU (05.07. - 31.08.)

Students who attend courses during the summer session will not be able to take courses in August and should choose summer courses starting in September. Please be aware that the courses in September start immediately after the end of the examination period.

Neither the IO, nor lecturers of GJU will be responsible for any missed exams or paper deadlines. It is your responsibility to be in Germany on time, otherwise you might lose your summer course placement.

Accommodation

  • In general, different options for accommodation are included for all locations in the list above.

  • There’s no guarantee for the availability of the accommodation chosen in your online application.

  • University dormitories and shared student flats (“WGs”) will most probably be mixed-gender. In case you do not need an accommodation, please explicitly tell us so in your online application.

During your Stay in Germany

Your Arrival in Germany

Please contact your language school to clarify how to get to your accommodation from the airport, how to receive the keys etc. Write down the address of your school and your accommodation, as well as the telephone number and the name of your responsible contact person at your school in case you need help.

ʿEid al-Adha (عيد الأضحى, Wednesday, September 23rd)

Please note that the Islamic celebration of ʿEid al-Adha is not a holiday in Germany. Therefore, this will not be considered a justified reason to be absent from your courses on this or the following days.

Attendance and Conduct at the Summer Courses (Cancellation Rules)

We expect all of our students to behave in a responsible manner and to respect their teachers, fellow students and property. Students are expected to represent the best of GJU, and to be ambassadors of Jordan, its society and values.

Visa and Health Insurance

Please do not make an appointment at the embassy yourself. We will arrange an appointment for you.

For your visa application you will need:

  • 2 Filled and signed application forms for a Schengen Visa (available at the IO).

  • 2 Filled and signed security forms (available at the IO).

  • The visa fees amounting to 60 Euro, to be paid in JOD at the current exchange rate.

  • Your passport as well as 2 passport copies.

  • 3 Biometric passport photos.

Make sure to bring a recent biometric passport photo. If the photo is either not biometric or out-dated, the embassy has to send you away to make correct pictures. This will make the process longer and might cause you to delay your departure from Jordan.
This kind of photo needs to meet certain requirements. Not all photo studios in Amman offer these photos. The embassy recommends the Salam-Studio at Abdoun Circle for best quality. Please check out this link for proper examples of such a photo.

  • Your confirmation of acceptance to the summer course. You will receive this through the IO as soon as possible, if not already given to you.

  • Health insurance confirmation for your time in Germany (travel health insurance). A list of suitable insurance companies in Amman is attached or available at the IO.

  • Scholarship Confirmation, which will be given to you through the International Office.

  • Certificate of Enrollment at GJU.

  • If possible: Flight ticket reservation to Germany and back to Amman.

Confirmation

Misusing your visa, inappropriate behavior, unexcused absence from your courses and any damage purposely inflicted to your accommodation will be reported to a disciplinary committee at GJU, which will decide on consequences for your study progress. The parents will be informed accordingly.

By submitting your application, you confirm that you are aware of the information and regulations mentioned above. Every student will have to sign an obligatory agreement that s/he commits him/herself to the mentioned regulations before leaving to Germany.
